Help modernize SSI

Take action today to promote the rights of seniors and people with disabilities.

Supplemental Security Income is “a program of last resort” that provides monthly financial benefits to very low income seniors and people with disabilities. Almost 8 million Americans depend on this income for survival.

Unfortunately, SSI has not been updated since 1989. Assistance is well below the Federal Poverty Level. Qualifying asset limits are so low that recipients can’t save for emergencies or large expenses. The government does not allow people on SSI to marry or to live with family without losing benefits. This is a clear lack of marriage equality for people with disabilities.

The SSI Restoration Act, introduced by Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-AZ-3), seeks to address these inequities. Contact your representatives today and ask them to support this bill.
